Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about preserving your memories with YouRemember.

Getting started

What is YouRemember?
YouRemember is a private digital memory keeper. You can save photos, write letters, and record voice notes — organised by time, person, and album. Think of it as a personal archive of your life that you can revisit, share with loved ones, and pass on.
Is YouRemember free to use?
Yes — YouRemember has a free plan that lets you save up to 100 memories, create 3 albums, and add 3 circle members. For users who want more, the Supporter plan ($2.99/month) unlocks unlimited memories, video memories, unlimited albums and circle members, print-ready exports, and more. Your first 7 days after signup come with a free Supporter trial so you can explore everything.
Do I need to verify my email?
Yes. Email verification ensures your account is recoverable and allows us to send you important notifications like your weekly digest. Check your inbox (and spam folder) after registering. You can resend the verification email from the sign-in page.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. YouRemember is a web application that works on all modern mobile browsers. You can add it to your home screen from your browser's share menu for a near-app experience. A native app may come in the future.

Adding memories

What types of memories can I add?
There are three memory types: Photo (upload an image with a caption and text), Letter (a written note or diary entry), and Voice (record or upload an audio clip). Each has its own card style on your timeline.
What file types and sizes are supported?
Photos: JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF — up to 10 MB per image.

Audio: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, WEBM — up to 50 MB per file.

If your file is larger than these limits, consider compressing it before uploading.
Can I backdate a memory?
Yes. When adding a memory, you can set any date — past or present. This is useful for digitising old photos or journaling about something that happened years ago.
What are Milestone memories?
When adding a memory, you can mark it as a Milestone — a moment of special significance like a birthday, graduation, or wedding. Milestones are highlighted differently on your timeline and tracked in your Growth Tracker.

Albums & organisation

How do albums work?
Albums let you group related memories together — a holiday, a year, a relationship, a project. Free users can create up to 3 albums; Supporter members get unlimited albums. You can add memories to an album from the main timeline and share entire albums with others via a private link.
Can a memory belong to multiple albums?
Currently, each memory can be assigned to one album at a time. We may add multi-album support in a future update.
What is the Circle?
Your Circle is a list of the people who appear in your memories — family, friends, partners. You can tag Circle members in individual memories and then filter your timeline to see only memories featuring a particular person.

Sharing & privacy

Can other people see my memories?
No — by default, all your memories are completely private. The only way anyone sees your content is if you explicitly generate and share a shareable link for a specific memory or album.
How do shareable links work?
Clicking the Share button on a memory or album generates a private link. Anyone with that link can view the content — no account required. You can revoke a shared link at any time from the same Share button.
Is my data safe?
We take security seriously. All connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Sessions use secure, HttpOnly cookies. Our servers are hosted in the EU (Helsinki, Finland). We do not sell or share your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Emails & digest

What is the weekly digest?
Every Monday morning, YouRemember sends you an "On This Day" email showing memories you captured around this time last year. If you have no memories from that period, you'll receive a warm note encouraging you to create one. You can toggle this on or off in Account Settings.
How do I unsubscribe from digest emails?
Every digest email contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also toggle "Weekly memory digest" off in Account Settings at any time — no login required via the email link.

Supporter & pricing

What is Supporter status?
Supporter is YouRemember's optional paid plan at $2.99/month. It unlocks: unlimited memories, video memories, unlimited albums, unlimited circle members, print-ready PDF exports, and priority support. Payments are processed securely by Stripe — we never store your card details.
How do I become a Supporter?
Payments via Stripe are coming soon. In the meantime, every new account receives a free 7-day Supporter trial automatically when you verify your email. You can also earn Supporter days by referring friends — each friend who subscribes gives you +30 days.
Can I cancel my Supporter subscription?
Yes — you can cancel at any time from Account Settings. Your Supporter benefits remain active until the end of the current billing period. No charges are made after cancellation.
What happens to my memories if my Supporter plan expires?
Your memories are never deleted when a plan expires. You simply revert to the free tier limits. Memories you added above the free limit remain readable but you will need to upgrade again to add new ones beyond the limit.
Is there a referral programme?
Yes. Share your referral link (found in Account Settings) with a friend. When they confirm their email you receive +25 bonus memory slots. If they later subscribe to the Supporter plan, you receive +30 days of Supporter status.

Exporting & deleting

Can I export my memories?
Yes. Go to Account Settings and click "Export All Memories" to download a ZIP file containing a JSON data file, a standalone HTML viewer, and all your photos and audio files. You can also export individual albums. We recommend doing this periodically as a personal backup.
What happens when I delete my account?
Deleting your account permanently removes everything — your memories, photos, audio files, circle members, albums, and all associated data. This cannot be undone. We recommend exporting your data before deleting.
